Week 10:Critical reflection

Our team consists of two game designers, two VR game designers and one VFX designer. At the beginning of the design, we decided on the theme of the project, the Exorcist. I thought it would be fun to play an exorcist in a VR game. In this cooperation project, I realized that communication with teammates is an important link in the process of the project.

At the beginning of the project, we also made some changes to the theme of the project, such as changing VR to XR (Extended reality), where the player doesn’t need to hold the controller, but only needs to make gestures with their hands. Then in terms of the game style, we adopted the Chinese horror style, and the subsequent furniture, architecture, character models and interactive props all kept the same style. Our schedule was completed in the third week, and we held an offline meeting at the school every week. In the sixth and seventh week, we held an online meeting, because of the subway shutdown caused by the strike, we made this decision. In the last few weeks, the number of times our team met offline gradually increased to almost once a day. Because there are a lot of things that need to be done with the VR device, it is important to see if the game scenes and interactions in VR are comfortable for the player. In addition to meeting offline, we also exchange project problems and progress in the chat group every day. In terms of project synchronization, we originally used GitHub for project follow-up, but later found it more convenient to use Unity’s Plastic SCM, so we have been using SCM for project follow-up.

My work in the project mainly includes visual effects and 3D modeling. Modeling of interactive props and scenes in the game, special effects and lighting, skeletal binding of characters, etc. In the process of the project, we encountered many problems, but the team members would quickly help teammates to solve the problems, so that the whole project process is very smooth. In this collaborative project, I realized that within the team, the work on the project was done by the project team members. Team members will undertake a variety of tasks and activities to help produce the desired deliverables. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of project team members to understand the goals and objectives of the project, to complete tasks within specified time limits, to report progress and issues, to maintain quality standards and requirements, to engage and collaborate with other members as part of an effective team, to identify risk mitigation, and to maintain professional ethics at all times.
